Construction Information

ConstructionPhase 1 Construction

In October 2004, Lucile Packard Children's Hospital (LPCH) embarked on Phase 1 of a large hospital remodeling project which will increase our capacity and enhance the overall patient and family experience. Our new outpatient and diagnostic Heart Center opened in May 2006. The Dialysis and Treatment Center opened in April 2007, adding dedicated pediatric services and treatment beds

A great deal of construction activity is taking place as we work to complete the remaining Phase 1 projects:
Please feel free to ask for directions or additional information about our construction.

We are working to provide as much relief as possible from the construction noise and vibration for you and your family. Please speak with your caregiver about any significant issues you may have associated with the construction activities you might experience. Our Patient Relations staff is also always available and ready to help as they can.

Renewal and Replacement Project

The Stanford University Medical Center (Lucile Packard Children's Hospital, Stanford Hospital & Clinics and the Stanford University School of Medicine) must rebuild and modernize facilities that are the foundation of our community’s health care services. A number of factors are driving these needs:
  • State-mandated seismic safety laws
  • A critical shortage of beds
  • Increasing patient needs
  • Undersized facilities
  • The need to adapt to changing technologies that will further new advances in medical care
These needs will require Stanford and the community to work together to meet the health care needs of Palo Alto and the region.

Lucile Packard Children's Hospital's preliminary needs assessment calls for 425,000 sq ft of new facilities on the current site which will add 104 patient beds featuring:
  • Individual rooms to further family-centered care
  • New surgical, diagnostic and treatment rooms
  • Clinics
