Education Series Offered For Parents Of Children Diagnosed With An Autism Spectrum
Enrollment under way for 10-part series starting September 10

PALO ALTO, Calif. -- The Stanford Autism Center at Packard’s Children’s is offering a new 10-part educational series for parents of young children and adolescents with an Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).“We’re designing this series to provide parents with information about ASD diagnoses, treatment, and services,” said Jennifer Phillips, PhD, a clinical assistant professor of child and adolescent psychiatry at the Stanford University School of Medicine and Packard Children’s Hospital. Subjects covered in the 10 sessions, which begin September 10, include the basics of behavior management, how to navigate the service system, research updates, and home strategies for skills building and stress reduction. Phillips will lead the classes along with clinical professor Linda Lotspeich, MD.
“This community of parents is always seeking the latest education and information,” said Phillips, who noted that registration is available for individual sessions or the entire series. “We’re excited about sharing our knowledge, and expect a lot of community interest.” Phillips added that parents can register for individual sessions and may join at anytime during the series. Many sessions apply to parents of any child with ASD; others apply to certain age groups or levels of language ability. “At the conclusion of the 10 weeks, we plan to start the sessions again, along with adding any new learnings.”
