PALO ALTO, Calif. -- Parents of children and adolescents in the Bay Area are being offered a free education session with child and teen depression specialists this Thursday (25) at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford. The session will be led by Frances J. Wren, MD, assistant professor of psychiatry and of pediatrics at Stanford University and director of the child and adolescent depression clinic at Packard Children's Hospital, and Johanna Warchola, PhD, a clinical instructor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at Stanford and Packard.
In the wake of two recent teen suicides in Palo Alto, Wren and Warchola are working to raise community awareness of mental health resources for young people, help clarify the warning signs of teen depression, and help counteract the stigma teens or families may feel about seeking treatment.
The presentation by Drs. Wren and Warchola will be followed by a question and answer period.
