Innovative approach offers non-pharmacological treatment for teen insomnia
For Release: August 06, 2009
PALO ALTO, Calif. -- "People may not be aware that there are effective non-medication alternatives to treating insomnia in teens."That statement from Rachel Manber, PhD, professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences, highlights the purpose of an important new service now being offered to treat insomnia in teens. “We’re offering this treatment not just to those who cannot sleep,” added Manber, “but even those with difficulties waking up in the morning.”
Manber and Allison Siebern, PhD, a post-doctoral clinician, are providing the new service in a small group format of six to ten teens for a series of five one-hour sessions, beginning August 17. “Each session builds upon the previous one,” noted Manber, “and the treatments are individualized to address each teen's unique presentation.” If a series of sessions is full, qualified participants will be added to a waiting list for the next series. “We believe this effective non-medication approach to an important health issue will be very popular,” said Manber.
