PALO ALTO, Calif. -- Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital today announced that 20 new Registered Nurses (RNs) are expected to graduate from the Versant RN Residency Program at a ceremony on Wednesday, February 4, 2009. Packard Children’s Hospital, which provides pediatric and obstetric medical and surgical services and is associated with the Stanford University School of Medicine, adopted the Versant RN Residency Program to increase the number of new nurse applicants, bolster the confidence and competence of new nurses, and standardize the delivery of quality patient care.

What:   Graduation ceremony for 20 Registered Nurses who completed a challenging 21-week Residency for RNs transitioning out of nursing school and into hospital units.

Where: Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital auditorium, 725 Welch Rd., Palo Alto, CA, 94304 (directions at www.lpch.org)

When:  Wednesday, February 4, 2009, 3:00pm PT – 5:30pm PT

Why:    The nation's nursing shortage is projected to grow to more than one million nurses by the year 2020, and analysts show that all 50 states will experience a shortage of nurses to varying degree by the year 2015.
