Brain and Behavior

Disorders of brain development and function affect approximately one out of five children. The direct and indirect effects of these disorders influence every facet of a child's life, family and community. Childhood brain disorders can include abnormalities of behavior, emotion, learning, language, development, sensation and movement.
The problem of childhood brain disorders is immense in scope and in its social and financial effects on our communities. Yet, with recent improvements in diagnostic tools, development of innovative treatments, and technological advances in brain image analysis, neurobiology, and genetics there is now tremendous potential to progress rapidly toward improved clinical practice.
Our physicians and other health care providers in Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, Pediatric Neurology and Pediatric Neurosurgery are working together to research and provide care for problems affecting a child's brain and its effect on behavior. This serves as a driving force for the Brain and Behavior Center.
