Our team is working to improve the diagnosis of heart rhythm problems while the fetus is still in the womb, thus allowing for treatments before delivery. This can be especially helpful in cases when the current options remain poor.
Working with our colleagues in obstetrics and the neonatal intensive care unit, we take care of the mother and baby prior to the birth and after.
Our team is researching ways to perform surgeries on fetuses to treat diagnoses such as rhythm problems. We will be investigating the possibility of performing fetal heart surgery on babies while they are still in the womb. Lucile Packard Children's Hospital will be leading the United States in research in this area.
Lucile Packard Children's Hospital is located in Palo Alto, adjacent to Stanford University Hospital, approximately 20 miles north of San Jose, CA and 40 miles south of San Francisco.
