Pediatric Heart Surgery Outcomes by Age Group
Overall Survival of Rate of 98.4%
The Children’s Heart Center’s pediatric cardiothoracic surgery outcomes by age group are shown below. Mortality rates are for all patients who underwent pediatric heart surgery at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital between 2002-2009.The data have not been adjusted for the complexity of the surgical procedure. Our program specializes in operating on highly complex congenital heart problems, so these outcomes are truly outstanding for the complexity of our patients.
The Children’s Heart Center also has a higher percentage of patients with very complex heart problems or those who are very small (premature infants) than most other heart centers, yet we still maintain these world-class outcomes.
A low score is better than a high score.
