The Johnson Center for Pregnancy and Newborn Services at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital has developed a program called Couplet Care which places an emphasis on a mother and baby being cared for together, by the same physicians, nurses and medical staff. The belief is babies should remain with their mothers in order to provide the best postpartum environment to prepare mothers for going home. The staff of the Johnson Center follows this care unless otherwise clinically indicated.
