Services Overview

The Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is an 11 bed, Level III NICU. We offer 24 hour, community-based care for premature infants and infants with a variety of neonatal illnesses. Stanford University neonatologists and subspecialists care for our patients and provide consultations as necessary.

Infants who require neonatal surgery are first stabilized in our NICU and are then transferred to Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital. Stable infants can also be transferred from the Packard Children’s Hospital NICU to our unit, where we provide Level II continuing care.

All of our NICU and support staff is trained to provide each baby with individualized developmental care based on the baby’s gestational age. Developmental care helps to minimize the negative effects of hospitalization. It uses evidence-based best practices to provide the best support for a developing critically ill infant and family.
