Important Change to Hospital Visitation Policy

Effective October 19, 2009, Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital will no longer allow non-patient visitors or family members under the age of 16 years to visit in the hospital. This policy will be in effect during the height of the flu season, usually lasting until spring, and will be re-evaluated at that time. Surgeries are performed in the Ford Family Surgery Center - a state-of-the-art surgical facility designed specifically for children. Learn more about the Center and how to prepare for your child's surgery. Types of problems treated include:
  • Spinal deformities
  • Clubfoot
  • Congenital dislocation of the hip
  • Conditions such as Legg-Perthes disease, a rare hip disease
  • Musculoskeletal tumors - tumors in the bones, joints, ligaments, tendons, muscles or nerves
  • Sports-related conditions
  • Neuromuscular disease, such as cerebral palsy, with orthopedic manifestations
The Orthopedic Clinic works closely with the Motion and Gait Analysis Laboratory to perform gait analysis. This tests how a patient walks and identifies any abnormal walking patterns.
