Preparing for a Procedure

Power PenguinFor kids. The Packard Kids Connection Web site helps children ages 5-12 to learn what it’s like to come to the hospital. Anesthesia is covered in the site's Getting Treated section. Kids can see what happens step-by-step and get to know who will be there to help them.

EmmiFor parents. Your child's doctor may ask that you view some important information using an online education program called Emmi® to prepare you for your child’s upcoming procedure. Information is available for:
  • Anesthesia
  • Hypospadias repair
  • Pediatric hernia repair for girls
  • Orchiopexy
  • Pediatric inguinal hernia or hydrocele repair (male)
This program takes about 20 minutes to complete.

Meet a Patient

After several failed treatments for chronic pelvic pain, Kalmia Beets, age 15, came to Lucile Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford for help. Our pediatric pain management service provided much-needed assistance and then referred her to the pediatric urology service and Associate Chief William Kennedy, MD. In this video, Kalmia, her mom Lisa, and Dr. Kennedy discuss Kalmia's innovative treatment and return to school.
