Adolescent Bariatric Surgery
Important Change to Hospital Visitation Policy |
| Effective October 19, 2009, Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital will no longer allow non-patient visitors or family members under the age of 16 years to visit in the hospital. This policy will be in effect during the height of the flu season, usually lasting until spring, and will be re-evaluated at that time. Are suffering from serious complications related to his or her weight
Patients who undergo bariatric surgery and follow postoperative guidelines may lose more than half of their excess body weight and may reduce or eliminate obesity-related diseases (comorbidities). Most of our patients have lost over 100 pounds.
In 2004, Packard Children’s Hospital was the first children’s hospital in California to offer bariatric surgery to adolescents. It remains one of the few children’s hospitals in the U.S., and the only one on the West Coast, to provide this treatment to adolescents.
Craig T. Albanese, MD, leads Packard Children’s Hospital’s bariatric surgery team. Its multidisciplinary group of clinicians is trained to treat the unique needs of bariatric surgery patients. In addition, Packard Children’s surgeons and other Center for Healthy Weight team members refine and evaluate new surgical procedures with local, national and international colleagues.
