Motion & Gait Analysis Laboratory Team

Jessica Rose, PhDJessica Rose, PhD
Dr. Rose is the director of the Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Motion & Gait Analysis Laboratory and an assistant professor in the department of orthopaedic surgery. She received her doctorate degree in physiology from the Stanford University School of Medicine, her master of science degree in physical therapy from Stanford University and her bachelor of science degree in zoology from the University of California at Davis. Dr. Rose has directed the Motion & Gait Analysis Laboratory since 1989. She is a member of the American Academy of Cerebral Palsy and Developmental Medicine, the Gait and Clinical Movement Analysis Society and the European Society of Movement Analysis for Adults and Children. Dr. Rose edits the book, Human Walking, 3rd Edition and is on the NIH Taskforce for pediatric motor disorders. Her primary research focuses on the neuromuscular and musculoskeletal mechanisms underlying movement deficits in children with cerebral palsy.
 
Erin Butler, MSErin Butler, MS
Erin is a biomechanical engineer at the Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Motion & Gait Analysis Laboratory. She attended the University of Pennsylvania and earned a bachelor of science degree in bioengineering. She received a master of science degree in mechanical engineering in 2001 and subsequently began working at the Motion & Gait Analysis Laboratory as a biomechanical engineer. In addition to her clinical duties, she is currently pursuing a doctorate degree in bioengineering at Stanford University.

 
Leslie Torburn, PT, MSLeslie Torburn, PT, MS
Leslie is a physical therapist at the Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Motion & Gait Analysis Laboratory. She received her master of science degree in physical therapy from the University of Southern California and her bachelor of science degree in physiology from the University of California at Davis. Prior to coming to the Motion & Gait Analysis Laboratory in 1993, she worked at the pathokinesiology laboratory at Rancho Los Amigos Medical Center in Downey, California, under the direction of orthopedist Jacquelin Perry, MD. Leslie is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association and is an active member of the California Physical Therapy Association. She is certified in kinesiological electromyography by the Physical Therapy Board of California. 
 
Lisa Johanson, DPTLisa Johanson, DPT
Lisa is a physical therapist at the Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Motion & Gait Analysis Laboratory. She completed her doctor of physical therapy degree at the Massachusetts General Hospital Institute of Health Professions in 2006. She received a master of science degree from Boston University in 1982 and her bachelor of science degree in physical therapy in 1977 from Ohio State University. She has previous experience in testing upper and lower extremity muscle function from Shriners Hospital for Children. Lisa is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association and the neurology section of the APTA. She also has a research position at the VA Palo Alto Health Care System, investigating tendon transfer surgeries to restore hand function to individuals with spinal cord injuries. She is certified in kinesiological electromyography by the Physical Therapy Board of California.
 
Jay Ecalnir, ASJay Ecalnir, AS
Jay is the clinic coordinator for the Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital Motion & Gait Analysis Laboratory. He attended Sacramento City College and graduated from the physical therapist assistant program in 2000. Jay has worked at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital since 1995. He was a rehabilitation services aide from 1995 to 2000, and has served as clinic coordinator and patient testing technician at the Motion & Gait Analysis Lab since 2000.
