Car seat fitting station

The Kohl’s Child Safety and Outreach Program at Packard Children’s is dedicated to preventing injuries in children. With Kohl’s ongoing support, the program plays a key role in reducing harm to Bay Area children. Our bilingual staff provides car, bike, and pedestrian safety education at health fairs and community events across the South Bay and Peninsula. Check our calendar for upcoming events near you.

Car Safety

Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of injury and death to children ages 2 to 14 and the leading cause of injury-related death for children under 2. When installed and used correctly, child safety seats and safety belts can save lives. Our program educates parents on proper installation of their child’s car seat and best practices for child passenger safety throughout childhood. We offer bilingual (English/Spanish) education on-site at Packard Children's Hospital as well as at community sites throughout the year. Learn more about our Car Seat Fitting Station.

Bike Safety

Wearing a helmet can reduce the risk of head injury by 85 percent! Children should always wear a properly fitted helmet when riding bikes, scooters or skateboards. Our program offers bike helmet fitting and safety tips at health fairs and other community events. Bikes and equipment are inspected for proper reflectors, lights, brakes, gears and tires. Additionally, we offer bike rodeos that demonstrate road challenges and hazards so that children can learn to avoid risks.

Pedestrian Safety

Pedestrian injury remains the second leading cause of unintentional injury-related death among children ages 5 to 14. Our program assesses pedestrian risks in school areas and teaches children and parents how to be safe when walking to school. Steps are then taken to improve crosswalks, create safe routes to school and improve drop-off zones. Pedestrian workshops are offered to teach both children and parents safer practices.
