The Family-Centered Care Program Commitment

The goal of Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital’s (LPCH) Family-Centered Care Program is to enable LPCH to provide care that is responsive to the unique needs, preferences and skills of the children it cares for and their families.

To achieve this, the Family-Centered Care Program commits to providing opportunities for families, patients and health care providers to work together, in partnership, to develop family-centered programs, policies and clinical practices that result in a caring, supportive and responsive health care environment.  The program also provides support and information that will enable parents to determine their role in the parent/provider partnership that is in the best interest of their child and family.

Important to the success of the program is a commitment to the development of family-centered goals and programs from three perspectives:

LPCH Perspective

From the hospital’s perspective, the Family-Centered Care Program commits to:
  • Partner with families to determine care policies at LPCH
  • Partner with families to develop family programs at LPCH

  • Value the importance of the family’s role in educating staff and future health care providers
  • Develop an ongoing Family Advisory Council
  • Develop opportunities for family-to-family mentorship
  • Partner with families to develop information resources to help other families
  • Partner with non-English speaking families to develop culturally sensitive clinical programs and care policies
