LPCH Visiting Hours and Guidelines |
At Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital (LPCH) we believe that the family and other significant people in a person’s life have a critical role in the patient’s plan of care. Our policy is to support family-centered care and promote optimal family functioning while considering patient/visitor/staff safety as well as patient confidentiality and a patient’s need for rest.
Two parents, legal guardians or other adult caregivers are allowed to be in the hospital at all times unless there is a safety or patient care concern. All other visitors must follow the visitation guidelines below.
Visiting Hours: 8 am to 9 pm
Quiet Hours: 9 pm to 8 am
Overnight Stay
-
In the Maternity Unit, one adult primary support person may stay overnight if the patient is in a private room. In a shared room, both families must provide verbal permission to a nurse to allow any support persons to stay overnight.
-
In the Pediatric Units, two parents or legal guardians may stay in the room at the discretion of the nurse if the patient is in a single room. Otherwise, when possible, bedside sleeping facilities are provided for one parent or designee over the age of 18.
-
For parents who aren’t able to sleep at the patient’s bedside, a social worker can assist you in coordinating alternate sleeping arrangements. If you’re assigned to sleep in a parent lounge, we ask that you vacate with your belongings by 8 am each morning.
-
Fire codes prohibit sleeping in alcoves, corridors or open public areas.

All hospital visitors must wear identification badges or stickers to ensure the safety of our patients. Parents receive badges at the time their child is admitted. Other visitors must check in upon each visit at the main lobby Information Desk to obtain a "Visitor" sticker. It is your right to ask anyone visiting your child to show their hospital identification to you.
To maintain the healthiest environment possible and to avoid infection of patients, visitors will be screened for contagious diseases. Please do not bring to the hospital any children who display signs of contagious diseases or who have been exposed to measles or chicken pox.
If you would like to locate a patient who is hospitalized, call the hospital operator at (650) 497-8000 or visit the Information Desk located on the first floor.
If you have any questions, please contact Patient Relations at (650) 498-HUGS (4847).
