Overview
The Alliance for Children's mission is to make the well being of children the public’s number one priority, through developing public awareness, influencing public policy and promoting child advocacy issues.
The Alliance for Children was formed in 1994, when representatives from agencies that serve children and youth in San Mateo and Santa Clara counties joined forces. Their dual purposes were to raise public awareness about the needs of children, and demonstrate how programs, public policies and views can be changed or strengthened to help all children fulfill their potential. Over the years, the Alliance has provided information to the non-profit, education, government and philanthropic communities about how policies and legislation affect the health and well being of children. Alliance activities in recent years have included:
- Forums on the California budget process and the budget’s impact on children
- Child-focused voter’s guides
- Annual legislative breakfasts
- Development of legislative briefing books on children’s issues
- Letter-writing campaigns to influence public policy affecting children
The Alliance recognizes that children cannot vote, and that most children are unable to advocate for themselves, leaving the responsibility to adults in the community to ensure the health, education, safety and security of our children.
