Heart to Heart: A Seminar on Growing Up for Parents and Kids

This informative, humorous and lively discussion of puberty, the opposite sex and growing up sets parents and their pre-teens on a straight course for talking with one another on these very important topics. Join us for a two-part class developed by Julie Metzger, RN and Rob Lehman, MD of "Great Conversations" in the Seattle, WA area. "A Heart to Heart Seminar: For Girls Only" is for girls 10-12 years of age, and their moms or other adult female resource person.  Each class includes discussions on:

• Physical changes and menstruation
• What girls should know about boys
• Social issues
• Sexuality and sexual reproduction
  

"A Heart to Heart Seminar: For Boys Only" is for boys 10-12 years of age, and their dads or other adult male resource person.  Each class includes discussions on:

• Body changes to expect during puberty
• Myths and facts
• What boys should know about girls
• Sexuality and sexual reproduction

Emphasis in both programs is on the importance of family as the primary resource and communication between parents and children.

All "Heart to Heart" seminars are held in 2 sessions, on the same day of the week and one week apart. Each weekday evening class is held from 6:30 - 8:30 pm.  
We hold year-round classes in the following convenient bay area locations:

• in Belmont: Belmont Sports Complex
• in Campbell: Orchard City Banquet Hall at the Campbell Community Center
• in Menlo Park: Community Education Classrooms at the Menlo Corporate Center
• in Palo Alto: the Auditorium on the first floor of Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford

 
Do you have Twins or Triplets? We encourage you to bring each child separately honoring their individuality. The class involves some role-playing games where it is helpful to have one-on-one time with each. The fee is per child so it's the same price if you bring them to one class or to two or three.
 
Attention Groups:  Our past experiences and class evaluations have indicated that attending the class as a group has some drawbacks. It is our recommendation that a family attends the class alone or perhaps with one other close family. The Heart to Heart Seminars can be a very powerful and personal experience paving the way for open communication between the adult and preteen child.

Cancelation/Change of Date Policy: Cancelations and changes in class dates made more than 2 weeks in advance of the start date of the class will be refunded in full. Any request for a change of date or cancelation less than 2 weeks before the class start date will incur a $25 administrative fee.  Sorry but no refund or changes to class dates can be made after the class has started. To cancel a class or change a class date please call us at 650-724-4601.
